Roof Installation and Repair
TAMKO AND GAF ROOFING SYSTEMS
Roof replacement is one of the most expensive improvements you can make to your home or commercial building. We want our customers to understand what they’re buying! Here’s what goes into roofing your home or office:
A quality roofing installation begins with the complete removal of old materials to start with a clean slate. At this point, any potential problems, such as rotten or cracked decking, can be addressed. This is a messy process! However, any reputable roofing contractor will make sure to clean up after themselves, leaving your property in excellent condition.
Installing high-quality deck protection provides an additional layer of protection between the shingles and the deck. It helps to prevent water from seeping under shingles and causing damage to your roof’s deck and your home’s interior. Additionally, it helps the shingles to lay flat, resulting in a better-looking roof.
A roof has many areas that are more vulnerable to leaks. Those areas include the valleys (where two slopes come together, forming a “V”), the eaves and the rakes. All of these should have the extra protection from leaks provided by a good leak barrier. Skylights, dormers, vent pipes, and chimneys are also susceptible and should be protected with a leak barrier as well.
A starter strip (the first course of shingles installed) is the first line of defense against high winds and storm damage that can lift up the edges of the shingles. This step helps to prevent shingle blow-off and the resulting leaks, as well as creates a clean-looking edge to the roof.
Proper Shingle Nailing:
Proper nailing techniques are essential to a successful roofing installation. Nail type, location, length, and angle are critical to making sure the job is done correctly. Although the manufacturer recommends 4 nails, we use 6 nails per shingle for additional protection from winds up to 130 mph. This will help prevent premature roof repairs.
